I am not a morning person. I’m also not a breakfast person. I enjoy making breakfast….but at 9am. So, the fact that my children are 6:30am-wakers and whisper into my ear at 6:35 am, “I’m hungry…” is a problem for me. I’ve realized that my days get off to a rough start on the mornings they wake me for food. Which is pretty much every day. I’m working on becoming more of a ‘morning person’. I really would love to be one. In the mean time, I need 10 more minutes….or heck, 30! Any homeschool mom could. However, I also have a baby’s diaper to change upon waking. I usually have to start a cartoon for the screaming 3 year old. Along with several other little distractions, all the while, my older children are begging for food.
My 7 year old has been quite capable of making his breakfast (and does) since he was about 5 and a half. However, getting bowls from high cabinets and cereal from the top shelf of the pantry were still my jobs until I created this little cabinet. It has been working well and the boys told me they like it.
I created a space that has lots of breakfasts they can choose on their own, plus fruit. There is also a list I made with hot breakfast items that I’ll gladly whip up–in good time. I need to be dressed, teeth brushed, and coffee brewing prior to eggs and flour begin plastering my counter tops. In other words, if they choose a hot breakfast, they learn patience 🙂 The learning starts early in this here house!
Enjoy your extra 10 minutes ladies!!
