Really, “Nursing Mom”….Really?

Our newest little man’s baptism is coming up in a few weeks and I was shopping for a nursing dress online.  Like most moms on a budget, I RARELY buy new things for myself.  RARELY.

However, after looking at nursing dresses on this one site, I saw the ‘nursing sleepwear’ tab and thought what a luxury that would be!  As of right now I’m sleeping in my husband’s underwear, the same nursing bra I bought for my oldest son (6 YEARS AGO!!!), and a basketball playoff t-shirt from high school.  So, I clicked it.  Maybe, just MAYBE, I’d indulge next month and buy a nightgown that I could wear for the next 7-10 years.  This is what I saw:

WHYYYY do these ‘NURSING MOMS’ look so….REFRESHED?  What’s up with the one in the red dress?!  Who is skipping after nursing a baby ALL.  NIGHT.  LONG?!

And, what is that I see?  Brushed hair?  Waxed eyebrows?

More importantly….are these extended nursers who are nursing their TEN year old?!!!  Because if not, I NEED to see at LEAST 15 extra pounds in all the wrong places gracing those nylon thin nursing gowns!!!!  Seriously?!

So, that’s it for today.  As you may gather from this post….I’m sleep deprived, nursing 24/7, 30 pounds overweight, have no time to look cute, and in desperate need of a nursing nightgown.

Can I get an Amen?

  1. Liz, I know this post is a rant, but you made me laugh! 😉 You’re such a sweetie that you’re even funny when you’re sleep deprived! I love you, my friend, and I’m praying that your new little guy will behave himself and let you get the sleep you need very soon.

AMEN! hahaha I was just looking online at nursing bras and nursing wear daydreaming of how nice it would be to just click and order each item I want or even could truly use! Baby #5 in 5 years cuts back the mommy budget a bit! I hate shopping for myself now because when I do find something it cost too much or I feel guilty because one pair of pants or one nursing gown could buy 4 or more packs of diapers! Oh the life of a mom.

Isn’t THAT the truth? Yeah, the price of one of those nursing nightgowns was $59?! For a nightgown? I could feed my kids for several days with that! LOL! Thanks for following my blog Jessica! I appreciate it!

  3. Oh my goodness, I know! I recently went to Motherhood and tried on some nursing sleepwear and bras. I would really like to know if anyone has ever successfully worn their ridiculous clothes for nursing. NOTHING fit me! And the support? nothing! Why would I buy special pajamas for nursing with no support at all… sheesh… okay, rant over 🙂

  4. Oh, Liz, too funny! I know exactly what you mean! My youngest is five, and I still need to see some, uh, “curves” under those night gowns. I don’t need nursing gowns any more, but try searching “plus size lingerie.” Yeah, gotta love seeing size 0 girls modeling “big girl” nighties, argh!

I feel ya momma! Still trying to find decent CUTE nursing bras!

  6. Tell me about it. My youngest is 19 months and still breastfeeding. I am so over it. I don’t even recognize myself anymore.
I love your blog. I can really relate to you.

    • Thank you Jen!!! I would be SO over 19 months too. The longest mine ever go is like 12-13 months. Then, they just don’t wait to nurse anymore. Which, as much as I love it…by that time, I’m pretty much done. I’m always sad for a couple days…but I get over it ;)! LOL!
