Remember hobbies?

Back before I was a homeschooling mother to three busy little boys, my passion was cakes.  I could sit for hours on end reading various recipes.  Cake decorating videos were on my Christmas wishlists.  Cake designing, cake blogging, cake sculpting.

…cake sandwiches, cake on a stick, cake tacos…(name that movie!)

My friends and family were always encouraging me and allowing me to hone my skills to help with their special day.  I loved it.

However, as hobbies go, it began to take over.  It got way too expensive and time consuming.  Weekends would leave me wading in powdered sugar and fondant only to meet the heels of another weekend full of cakes.

I called it quits when baby number 3 arrived.  And, I’m ashamed to say that the past year our boy’s events have been filled with…..GROCERY STORE CAKES!!!! (DUN, DUN, DUNNNNN!)  Oh the HORROR!

I really must carve out the time to at least dust off my cake decorating hat for my babies!

Anyhoo, here are the pics of ‘my greatest hits’.  If anything, perhaps this post will inspire me to get back in the saddle again!

That was a fun trip down memory lane….

Do you have any hobbies you’ve left behind in the wake of motherhood?

  1. Hi Elizabeth! This is Carlie from the HHM Team here to show you some LOVE 🙂 Your cakes are amazing. I can relate to the hobbies being put on hold for a time. I am grateful that God is allowing me to slowly work a few back into my life 🙂 Nothing too time consuming, but it is a blessing none-the-less. Welcome to the HHM Team!

I feeling the virtual love Carlie!!!! Thanks so much! As God as my witness…one day I’ll bake again!!!!!! LOL!

  2. Love your cakes!!!! Beautiful work! It’s tough to balance everything! I am out exploring some new hobbies and reclaiming some old 🙂 Wishing we had 36 hours in a day, but then I would probably want more than that too! 🙂 Happy Thursday to you!

    • Elizabeth says:

Me too Darcy! I so want to reclaim this one….I think I’d have to reclaim it at 1am, though :/. Just not enough hours in the day to do it all it seems!

  3. Howdy! Louanne from the HHM team. I also LOVE to bake and decorate cakes. These are totally awesome.

I joke that baking is my love language to others 🙂 But in the last year I have focused a whole lot more on the inside of the cakes than the outside trying to perfect some recipes.

  4. Love the “Older Than” cake. Both of my parents are turning 50 in October. How did you make the spinner? Does yours really spin?

The cakes you have made are beautiful!!! You have such talent! Even if you put it on pause for a while, you can always bake/decorate cakes again!
I love making things for others to enjoy! Recently, I’ve decided to just do things for myself/my family.. Being a wife and mother takes up so much of my day, but I couldn’t imagine it any other way! Through my hobbies, I’ve discovered my four year old daughter loves baking, crafting, designing and organizing.. When I think about it, I believe our hobbies, to some extent can become part of our lives that we can share with our children.. 🙂

    • I totally agree Kimberly!!!! My blog has become my new hobby and it’s really helped me with post partum baby blues this time! Thank you for stopping by!

  1. […] Slowly but surely I discovered Wilton products and that started my love for cake and cookie decorating. The monster inside that adolescent girl is still alive today! Ha!  Well, sorta.  After lots of babies…there is rarely time or money to decorate…here’s a post about my passed projects. […]
